Quick Tips from Your Dentist: How to Pick the Right Toothbrush

You probably pick up your toothbrush and brush your teeth morning and night without giving the brush you use a second thought. But here at Georgian Shores Dental Centre, we want you to know that the toothbrush you use makes a difference when it comes to your oral health. That’s why we’ve put together these tips for picking the right toothbrush:

  • The first thing your dentist wants you to know is that your toothbrush should always have soft bristles. Toothbrushes with hard bristles can damage your gum tissue, exposing the roots of your teeth and making them more sensitive to heat and cold.
  • Your toothbrush should easily fit into your mouth and cover no more than two teeth in your mouth at a time.
  • You should replace your toothbrush as soon as the bristles start to look worn out or frayed because once this happens, the brush won’t do a good job of cleaning your teeth anymore. For most people, this happens about every three months. You should also replace your toothbrush after you’ve been sick to prevent the germs from spreading.
  • Investing in an electric toothbrush is the best option. We’re also happy to consult with you about the right toothbrush for your oral health. Talk to your dentist at your next appointment about selecting a toothbrush or feel free to give one of our offices a call.

Of course, we recommend not waiting for your semi-annual or annual visit if you need to see a dentist for pain, discomfort, inflamed gums, a chipped tooth, or other dental emergency. Our patient-oriented dental centre will work with you to get you seen by the dentist as quickly as possible.

If you have any questions regarding our dental services or would like to schedule an appointment to see a dentist, don’t hesitate to contact us. We look forward to assisting you with having the best oral health and stunning smile.
