If you’ve ever been in to visit us at our general dentistry office, we probably stressed to you the importance of regular flossing. Flossing is a method that is designed to remove bacteria and other debris from the teeth that cannot be eliminated with a toothbrush and is an essential part of taking care of your teeth.
Why Should You Floss?
At our general dentistry office, we believe that flossing is one of the best tools you have to keep plaque from forming on your teeth. Regular flossing can help you prevent cavities, periodontal disease, and other dental problems now and as you get older. Flossing can also help you improve circulation in your gums.
Knowing When to Floss
We typically recommend flossing at least once a day. The goal of flossing is to make sure the floss cleans in between your teeth where your toothbrush doesn’t reach to help prevent cavities and promote healthy gums. The floss should glide through the contact of your teeth and hug each side of the tooth, sliding up and down until your tooth is smooth.
If you have any questions about either of these flossing methods or why flossing is such an important part of keeping your teeth and gums healthy, contact us at Georgian Shores Dental Centre today. As your general dentistry provider, we are always more than happy to provide you with further information.
