Do you have goals to improve your dental hygiene? Dental hygiene is important to keep your teeth and gums healthy, and there is always room for improvement. To get you started, here are healthy habits that promote good dental hygiene.

Healthy Habits to Promote Dental Hygiene

  • Brushing – As you may know, it’s important to brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes, twice a day. When you brush your teeth think about your technique—you should angle your toothbrush towards where your gums meet your teeth. Additionally, you should be brushing your tongue and trying to brush all the surfaces of your teeth (front & back).
  • Flossing – Flossing is easily overlooked, but it is so important to maintain your dental hygiene. It is so easy for food to get stuck in between your teeth and irritate your gums. It’s important to be gentle when flossing and take one tooth at a time. To be more thorough, consider advanced equipment such as a water flosser.
  • Extra Care – Extra care to consider when practicing dental hygiene includes using a mouthwash containing fluoride, using a tongue scraper, and avoiding using products that could damage your teeth and gums, such as toothpicks and tobacco.
  • Regular Check-Ups – In addition to your daily routines, visit your dentist every 6 to 12 months. Visiting your dentist regularly will ensure that your teeth and gums are in good health and your dentist will be able to address issues early on before they become serious.

We hope these habits will guide you as you strive to enhance your dental hygiene. If you have any questions regarding dental hygiene and the services we provide, please contact us at Georgian Shores Dental Centre today!
