Sedation dentistry is offered at our dental centre in Midland, Ontario. Not all patients need sedation options, but it can be a valuable tool in certain cases. If you or someone you know is so afraid of the dentist or of going to a dental centre that they go years without regular treatment, sedation dentistry may be able to help.
Typically, there are two different options offered for sedation, and the method that is right for you depends on the situation. Your dentist will be able to help you determine what level of sedation is right for you.
- Moderate sedation: If you are moderately sedated, you will be relaxed and drowsy during the procedure. An oral pill is often used for this type.
- Mild sedation: Typically, mild sedation means that you receive laughing gas (nitrous oxide) before and perhaps during the procedure.
There are many reasons why you may want to discuss sedation options at our dental centre. If you have extensive dental work that you want done all at once, sedation may make it easier to sit still for the procedures. Some people have a more sensitive gag reflex or experience pain more acutely than others. If you are experiencing any anxiety about an upcoming procedure, talk to your dental professional about how you are feeling and what options you may have to relieve the anxiety.
