If you are like many people, seeing the dentist may not be one of our favourite things to do. Although experiencing dental anxiety and fear can keep you away from seeing a dentist, at Georgian Shores Dental Centre, we have a few helpful tips to offer that may ease your fears and make your next appointment more enjoyable:
- Be upfront—When you see a dentist at our office, please do not hesitate to let them know about your fears. When your dentist is aware of going on, they will be in a better position to make recommendations and adjustments that can make receiving dental care less intimidating.
- Try to relax—Although this may seem obvious, it is important that you try to relax before you see a dentist at our office. Try listening to music you enjoy, taking deep breaths, or bringing a friend or family member with you who can provide some level of distraction and support during your appointment.
- Go often—Many people do not like going to the dentist because they have received extensive, painful care in the past. The best way to avoid needing to have extensive dental work done is to come into our office every 9 to 12 months to prevent problems with your teeth and gums in the first place.
- Remember dental fear is normal—It is important to remember that being afraid of the dentist is completely common and normal. However, we also want you to remember that this fear should not keep you from taking proper care of your teeth and gums.
