At Georgian Shores Dental Centre, we emphasize the importance of patient education. There is only so much we can do when you aren’t brushing your teeth or flossing regularly, so to help you stay healthy, we do our best to inform you about dental topics and provide helpful advice.
With that in mind, here are three things your dentist wants you to know:
1. Regular checkups are important. You might feel okay with only going to the dentist once every couple of years, but just because you don’t notice any pain or glaring problems doesn’t mean your teeth are healthy. Regular visits every 6 to 12 months are important because they allow your dentist to detect signs of oral cancer and other complications early. This way, you have a better chance of treating problems before they get very serious.
2. You don’t need to lie about flossing. While flossing is incredibly important at removing plaque and bits of food that get stuck in your teeth, you don’t need to lie when your dentist asks how frequently you floss. They will usually be able to tell anyway. Plus, no one is judging you; your dentist just wants what is best for your health.
3. Your diet contributes a lot to your teeth. What you eat affects your teeth. For example, drinking lots of beverages like wine, coffee, tea, and dark soda on a daily basis will make your teeth look more yellow. In addition, eating a balanced diet that is rich in nutrients is very important for your oral health.
